Wanjira: Narrating Â'her storyÂ' ... Do you know who you are? Perhaps a
reading of the novel Wanjira will help you reflect on questions of
identity while looking at issues such as gender, ethnic and racial
differences. In reading the novel, the reader gets to accompany Wanjira,
the main character, in her quest for identity. Through her journal
entries, the reader gains entry into her mind and vicariously experiences
her fears. One such entry states Â"I have become someone else. I no longer
recognise myself. Things frighten me, and I donÂ't know why.Â" Wanjira is
disturbed by the patronising tone her male classmate uses to address her
in a tutorial, leading her to wonder Â"What, exactly, did it mean to be a
university woman? Did other women feel intimidated in tutorials and what
are they doing about it?Â"
= Women's Empowerment, what does it mean?
http://www.wougnet.org/cms/index.php?option=com_mamblog&task=show&action...
Empowerment, to many has meant subordination of the other. Men feel
empowered when their wives and sisters are on their knees for what service
they ask for, a scenario Â'feministsÂ' have set out to challenge. But guess
what, some women in Uganda actually defy the feministÂ's goal. For it seems
womenÂ's dependence is an implicit value for some women!

= Women from Northern Uganda visit St Jude Organic Farm in South Western
Uganda
http://www.wougnet.org/cms/index.php?option=com_mamblog&Itemid=83&task=s...
The farmersÂ' visit to St. Jude Organic Farm was a very intensive and
challenging activity to both the trainers and the trainees. The trainees
were challenged about why and how certain agriculture technologies worked.
The trainers had to teach through interpreters. Many of the women could
barely understand English language. So, right from the start it was agreed
that the medium of communication would be English translated into Luo
language. Cissy, Moses and Suzan took turns at translating from English to
Luo. Thus, the three days progressed beginning with morning theory and
ending with afternoon practicals.

Based on the settings of your camera, digital photographs are usually
large files (more than 1MB), and therefore are difficult to send by email
when you have a very slow internet connection. You will therefore need to
compress them before you can send them by email, insert them into a
document or upload them onto a website.
