= Namasuba Kikajjo Women's Development Association (NAKIWDA): NIGIINA
'Nigiina', which simply translated means rejoicing, jubilating or
celebrating, was started about three years ago by a group of women in
Kampala's Makindye Division. After all the challenges women faced with
loans from micro finance institutions to start up or supplement small
business finances and increase household incomes. Women found it difficult
in particular to cope with high interest rates and short periods within
which to repay the loans. Failure to do so, would lead to confiscation of
property thereby worsening the women's situation.

WSIS Online Forum: Paving the Way to Tunis, July 11 - 29, 2005

1. INTRODUCTION

Women of Uganda Network (WOUGNET) invites you to participate in an online
forum on key issues for the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS)
to share your views, experiences, knowledge and concerns. In particular,
the forum will focus on ICT policy priorities for Uganda as well as the two
outstanding issues for the WSIS - internet governance and financing
mechanisms.

1.2 HOW TO PARTICIPATE

To participate in the email discussion, please send an email to
ictpolicy [at] wougnet [dot] org indicating your interest to participate in the WSIS
online forum.

We would be grateful if you could help us disseminate this call for
participation to your network, organisations or individuals that may be
interested to engage in this issue.

2. BACKGROUND INFORMATION

This discussion will be moderated by Women of Uganda Network (WOUGNET),
http://www.wougnet.org, and will be for a period of three weeks, starting
from July 11 - 29, 2005. The objective of the forum is to create awareness
of the two outstanding issues, Internet Governance and Financing, as well
as to gather input on Uganda's position and identify gender concerns. The
outcome of the online forum will be submitted to the National WSIS
Taskforce to feed into their preparations and activities towards WSIS II.

Online Conference on: Telecenter Sustainability in Developing countries
1 - 30 July, 2005

The UgaBYTES Initiative is organizing an online conference between 1st and
30th July to discuss various issues of Telecenter sustainability.
Information and Communication Technologies have been accepted as key
ingredients for poverty reduction and achievement of the Millennium
Development Goals (MDGs). It is within this context that telecenters [to
mean Community Technology Learning Centers (CTLCs) and Community
Multi-media Centers (CMCs)] have become very important especially for
rural access to and use of ICT.

Conference Program:

Week One (1-8 July 2005)
Theme I: Telecenter sustainability and its indicators

Week Two (8-15 July 2005)
Theme II: Contributing factors, actors and constraints to Telecenter
sustainability

Week Three (15- 22 July 2005)
Theme III: Approaches and models to Telecenter sustainability

Conference Approach:
The conference shall take an online email-based format hosted on UgaBYTES

Participation is open to anybody with interest in ICT4D. However special
contribution is called from NGOs, CBOs, Telecenter networks, Telecenter
leaders, managers and practitioners across the world. To register for
