Dear Colleagues, Friends and Partners,

It is with great pleasure that I invite you to a
half day Public debate and launch of the 2009
Annual Uganda Governance Monitoring Platform (UGMP) report.

UGMP is a civil society governance monitoring and
advocacy group united in the quest for better
governance in Uganda. The platform produces a
monitoring report every year, evaluating, and
reporting on the governance situation and trends
in the country. It aims to increase vigilance in
demanding for corrective measures by the
Government of Uganda (GoU), especially where the
governance situation is appalling, and
consolidating areas where progress and gains have been registered.

The UGMP report for 2009 focuses on monitoring of
the African Peer Review Mechanism Programme of
Action (APRM-POA) and will be launched at a
public debate under the theme, Â"Restoring Public
Interest and Confidence in the Electoral Process
in Uganda: The place for Citizen ActionÂ". On the
same day, UGMP will also be launching Â"A 9 Point
Guide to being a Pro-active and Responsible
citizen in the Electoral ProcessÂ", a civic
consciencetization tool that aims to put citizens
at the forefront of shaping a democratic and
accountable political system in Uganda.

Professor G.W. Kanyeihamba will present a key
note paper on Â"Restoring Public Trust and
Confidence in the Electoral Process: the role of
the ordinary UgandanÂ", while Bishop Zac
Niringiye, the Chairperson of the APRM Governing
Council will be the Chief Guest and launch the
UGMP 2009 Report. It is also expected that the
Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Engineer
Badru Kiggundu will launch the 9 point Guide to
being a responsible and proactive citizen.

It will be our utmost pleasure to share your
company at this Public debate which will take
place on Tuesday 9th March 2010 at Hotel
Africana, starting at 2:00 pm. Attached is a
concept and Programme for the half day meeting.
