= Mobile services for women's organisations in Uganda
http://www.wougnet.org/cms/index.php

As noted for the 2009 CTA Observatory, in recent
years the ICT4D field has changed its focus
profoundly mainly to the wide use of mobile
phones. Africa has the highest growing rates of
mobile subscribers, while other ACP
(African-Caribean-Pacific) countries have
witnessed similar developments. The ACP-EU
Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural
Cooperation (CTA), together with its partners,
held the 2009 Observatory on ICTs on Â"mobile
servicesÂ" for agricultural and rural development.
The seminar was held in Wageningen, The
Netherlands from 2 to 4 November 2009 and
attended by around 30 international experts.

= Rural women farmers in Apac district determined in the fight against Poverty
http://kic.wougnet.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=41%2...

Rural Women Farmers in Apac District Northern
Uganda are determined towards poverty reduction
in their communities using various group
initiatives that would set them from the burden
of dependence to income generation and self
sustenance. This was evidenced during an internal
Monitoring and Evaluation of the project
conducted by Women of Uganda Network (WOUGNET).

The rural women farmers groups that were formed
in 2005 in 12 parishes of Apac district in 4 sub
counties with support of CTA is now progressing
at a rate they believe would drive them out of the yolk of poverty.

= CTA celebrates 25th anniversary
http://www.wougnet.org/cms/content/view/425/1/

A silver anniversary marks a milestone for any
organization. It seemed appropriate then, that
the 25th anniversary of CTAÂ's existence was
celebrated in style in Brussels, Belgium during
the CTA seminar whose theme was Â"The role of
Media in the agriculture and rural Development of ACP countries.Â"

A total of 150 participants from Africa, the
pacific and Caribbean attended the annual seminar
which took place in Brussels. Representatives
from the ACP and EU embassies based in Brusssels
were invited to the ceremony which was held at
the historical palais des colonies in Truven Brussels.

The CTA annual seminar 2009 was characterized
with a number of panel discussions which were
usually followed by instructive discussions on
the role of Journalists in Agricultural
development. Scientists, researchers and heads of
media houses from Africa, the Pacific and
Caribbean had a feeling that Journalists always
majored on reporting politics, scandals and
sports rather than Agriculture. They added that
the journalists mainly did it to satisfy
politicians. The response from Journalists was
quick, they said that the logic applied to
current events and the information collection and
processing techniques are universal, in other
words, they are not specific to any given sector.

= The Digital Doorway: A solution to Rural Communities.
http://www.wougnet.org/cms/component/option,com_mamblog/Itemid,83/task,s...

The Digital Doorway is a very robust computer
kiosk. It was developed so that it could be put
in rural areas among communities and school areas
so that the communities can just use it to equip
themselves with ICT skills and retrieve local
content relevant to their needs. It is also good
for school children to teach themselves how to use the computer.

The Digital Doorway is a hardy, weatherproof
internet kiosk with three computer terminals,
vandal-proof keyboards, reinforced screens,
speakers, and webcams within a rugged steel
enclosure. Deployable in cities and remote areas
through satellite internet, the Digital Doorway
provides internet access to children and
communities that are otherwise unreachable by
computer labs or internet cafes. In the absence
of internet connectivity, the Digital Doorway
offers interactive educational software,
reference materials, game and tutorials.

= Apac District Local GovÂ't and CSOs promises to
end corruption in the District Procurement Processes
http://kic.wougnet.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=57%2...

Apac District Local Government (ADLG), and The
Apac Anti Corruption Coalition (TAACC), has
agreed to work together as a coalition in the
fight against rampant corruption in the district
procurement processes by instituting Integrity
PACT (IP), in awarding district tender or
contracts. This resolution was made during a half
a day meeting that took place in Apac Women
Development Center on Wednesday 28th October, 2009.

The meeting was organized by The Apac Anti
Corruption Coalition (TAACC), under the program
called Anti Corruption Country Threshold (ACT),
this program is funded by USAID to help Uganda
Government rapidly reduce corruption and qualify
for some bigger US funding in the fight against
corruption recently identified as the highest in
the public procurement department.

= Potato worms attacks Teso and Lango sub regions
http://kic.wougnet.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&layout...

Worms that eat sweet potato leaves have attacked
gardens in the Teso and Lango sub regions. Some
farmers in Teso particularly have started
slashing the vines to get rid of the pests. The
pest identified as the sweet potato horn worm or
hawk moth, can destroy a garden in one day.

= Start Up And Management Practices Of Rearing Indigenous Chicken
http://kic.wougnet.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=40%2...

We have looked at the improved practices in
rearing indigenous chickens, we also saw facts
about indigenous chickens and reasons for
improved management practices. As we are aware,
indigenous chickens plays an important role in
the livelihoods of most rural families. Therefore
itÂ's important that we understand the different
methods and practices involved in realising a better output.

= October 2009: What is Microblogging?
http://www.wougnet.org/cms/content/view/419/77/

The phrase social networking has been all the
rage over the last couple of years. With sites
like Facebook, MySpace and the like, more and
more people are connecting with each other and
interacting online. Blogs, too, are a popular way
of sharing information and attracting an audience
of people with similar interests.

But more and more people are making that kind of
interaction quicker and shorter. Instead of
writing long posts or email messages, they're
tapping out quick missives telling their friends
(and the wider world) what they're up to at the moment, through microblogs.

Re: [wougnet-update] WOUGNET Update Newsletter - October 2009

The names are 100% different, I think someone just woke up on the wrong side of the bed looking for a fight. Instead they should find causes worth fighting for as church women, if indeed they are actually working for God......speaking as an active christain.

Best regardes
